FAQ
For Student

Q: How do I apply your cultural exchange program?
A:
First of all, complete the Homestay Application Online form and submit it. Once we receive your application, we will contact you directly if we need further information. Otherwise, we will immediately begin to look for a suitable host family for you based on your needs. The process will immediately begin to look for a suitable host family for you. This process may take a few days to two weeks. We recommend you apply as soon as possible because the number of host families is limited. This will help ensure the best placement for your individual needs. When a host family has been found, we immediately contact you by email, fax, or mail, and provide you with detailed information about the home. A refund cannot be made once we start to look for a host family; however, if an available host cannot be found, your placement and processing fees will be completely refunded to you.

Q: What is the application deadline?
A:
We prefer to receive your application at least 60 days before your arrival. Even though you may submit an application less than 10 days in advance, you may not be placed due to difficulty in locating an appropriate host family. Early applications are strongly recommended.

Q: How should I pay the Homestay fees?
A:
You will pay the mySchooler.com for the placement and processing fees (1 time charge only). You will then pay the mySchooler.com for entire month you stay in their home. The mySchooler.com will pay your host family each month.

Q: When do I receive my Homestay placement information?
A:
As soon as your placement is confirmed, we will send your host family information by email, fax or mail at least 10 days before your arrival.

Q: How far are host families located from my school?
A:
It may vary by location and your placement. Some of our host families are located within walking or biking distance from your school. Although every effort is made, there is no guarantee that you will be placed in walking or biking distance. Some of our students may be required to take a bus or train ride to get to their school, and may take up to even one hour.

Q: How can I be sure that I will have a good Homestay experience?
A:
You should be open to new experiences. The US culture, customs, people, homes and cities are very different than your hometown. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about American culture. You will experience American style of living with an American host. If you have any problems while staying with your family, we are always available to help you. If you do not get along with your family at all, we will change your host family without any charge (1 time only). Please feel free to contact us by email, phone, or fax.

Q: Who will cook my meals?
A:
You will have a self-served continental breakfast (cereal, juice, toast) in the morning. In the evening, you will have a prepared dinner with the family.

Q: Will I have computer access or internet access at my Homestay?
A:
Although some homes have both computer and internet access that you can use, it is not guaranteed. Most of our host families will allow you to bring your laptop computer and use their regular phone line with a local provider.

Q: What do I need to do if I would like to end my Homestay and move out from the host family?
A:
You will need to let the family know at least 60 days before you expect to move. You will be responsible for the next a month of rent, even if you do not stay with the family, if proper notification is not given.
